A taste of the Mir
debout album (Riccardo Conti and Michele Elia) comes out of the experience
matured,in the last years, within the roman electronic scene and from a precious
background of "played music".
The 12 tracks steal "clients" from the
"rewarded" firm of Mr.Morr and Mrs.Warp, where the logic orders and leads complex
rythmic structures, and emotional warm.
A lot of electronic,guitars and
voices.Melodies conceptually based on intelligent and communicative interpretation of the
couple "repetition-variation", and able then not to fall into the
misunderstanding of the evergreen confortable seriality, comes out of the crossing of
timbres and acoustic levels.
The songs of A taste of are sometimes expanded and rarefied,
but indeed songs that, thanks to small, permanent, resounding inventions, make their way in
the memory already at a first hearing, without applying to the insignificant and
misterious cathegory of "catchy".
It is a new way of Pop follwing a style at the same time
heterogeneous and recognizable, alterning,by surprise, sung segments and instrumental
spaces, synthetic sounds and seductive whisperings, stressings of dance and sound
minimalism, with a modern and defenetly anti-nostalgic look towards a certain kind of
british atmospheres of the 80s.
In "Figure" ( a potentially warm and touching single ),the
collaboration with the very young roman singer Bianca Di Cesare evokes
Portisheads ghost and recalls the most inspired Air; on the other side, tracks like
"Tester" and "Toolbox" betrays a more electro soul and
sometimes, hybrid rhytmics and even exothic suggestions, become protagonist.
Mir, the small satelite launched from
Rome groundbase, is already in orbit and its sending out a strong signal: weather
forecast overcoming borders of the obvious.
A taste of is a dispatch for those who want to know in
advance the future scenery of electronic and Pop: you better look for the right
frequencies.
