CNI Compagnia Nuove Indye is the most independent italian record company which was founded in 1992. It has encountered success in the market-place because of several important conscious decisions.
First of all, we decided to make the most of a new generation of young Italian artists without distorting their original characteristics; then we chose to concentrate on the correct promotion of these groups, also promoting their live performances and seeing that their records are distributed in an appropriate manner in the right places.
In the field of promotion and distribution CNI has endeavoured to create a special rapport with radio stations, music outlets and the general music public, believing in the importance of communicating views and opinions and developing a coherent working relationship.
As a result the company has continued to grow and grow and can today boast an efficient distribution network (the promotion and sale of records and the organisation of special events and shows all over Italy) and a network of radio partners and tried and tested music clubs.
The music of CNI’s artists (mostly bands, among the most well-known are Agricantus, Avitabile, Darmadar, Nidi d'Arac, Novalia, The Third Planet) can be defined in different ways: 'ethnic', 'world', 'jungle' or 'dub'. It is certainly not your run of the mill, traditional 'pre-packaged' commercial rock or pop; in Italy it is in fact defined as 'contaminated' music due to the influence that world-wide styles and different musical origins have on the artist’s original sounds. The artists' roots and native dialects are of course also of utmost importance - as are the different musical and non-musical cultures which are part of the artists themselves, who carry with them a wealth of musical heritage which naturally comes out in their music.
